How this site makes money
At the moment, it does not. Every outbound link on this site is a plain link. Some of them may later earn a commission, and this page explains exactly what would and would not change if that happens.
Where things stand today
No link on this site is tracked. Nothing here earns a commission, an affiliate fee, a referral payment or a placement fee, and no service compared on this site has paid us anything or been asked to. When you click through to a flower service from one of our pages, nobody is credited with the click and nobody is paid if you buy.
What may change
We intend to apply to affiliate programmes for some of these services. Two of the eight run programmes that accept Irish sites; the rest do not currently run one at all. If an application is accepted, the link to that service becomes a commission link, and if you buy after clicking it we are paid a percentage by the service. You pay exactly the same price either way. There is no surcharge and no code to enter.
Three things would not change:
- The destination. A commission link goes to the same service, at the same address, as the plain link it replaces. Nothing is redirected somewhere more profitable.
- The ranking. Order on a comparison page comes from published figures, argued for in the prose beside the table: reach, cutoff time, whether a charge is published before checkout, what the cheapest bouquet costs. Commission is not one of those inputs and will not become one. Services that pay us nothing will keep appearing above services that pay us something whenever the figures say so.
- The criticism. Where a service does something badly, the page says so, including about a service we are paid by. Three of the eight publish no delivery charge before checkout; that sentence stays on this site whatever happens commercially.
How you can tell
Every commission link on this site is marked in the page source withrel="sponsored", which is the tag search engines and browsers read for exactly this purpose. Plain links carry rel="nofollow" instead. Today every outbound link on every page is the second kind. Any page carrying merchant links also shows a short disclosure notice near the top, whether or not the links on it are tracked.
Advertising and anything else
There are no display ads on this site at present. If that changes, ads will be labelled as ads and kept out of the comparison tables. We do not take sponsored posts, paid guest articles, paid inclusion in a comparison, or payment to remove a criticism. Nobody compared here is shown a page before it goes up.
Why say all this
Because a comparison site earns money from the same click it is supposed to be advising you about, and that is a real conflict which is better named than glossed over. The defence against it is a method you can check: figures read by hand from published pages, each one dated, with the gaps left visible.How the figures are checked sets that out, and if you find somewhere we have fallen short of it, tell us.
